SII

Also known as: Servicio de Impuestos Internos

Definition

SII (Servicio de Impuestos Internos) is Chile's tax authority. It administers VAT, income tax, electronic invoicing and the Registro de Compras y Ventas (RCV).

LATAM context

Every Chilean individual or company is identified by a RUT registered with SII. Electronic invoicing has been mandatory since 2018. Bank statements support the monthly Registro de Compras y Ventas.

Concrete example

A Chilean company downloads its DTEs (Documentos Tributarios Electrónicos) from SII and reconciles them against bank transactions for the monthly close.

How it shows up on your bank statement

On Chilean statements, payments to SII appear as charges labeled with the corresponding form (the monthly F29 is the most common) or via an automatic payment agreement. The filing's folio number is what lets you match it against what was submitted.

How does finO$ handle this?

finO$ helps prepare SII reconciliation by structuring Chilean bank transactions in the format the RCV expects.

Frequently asked questions about SII

What is the F29 and why does it show up every month?

It's the monthly VAT and withholding filing. Being monthly and mandatory for most taxpayers with activity, it generates a recurring charge that becomes one of the most predictable line items when reconciling.

Does SII accept the bank statement as backup?

As proof a payment was made, yes. But the tax support for an expense lives in the corresponding electronic tax document; the bank transaction accompanies it, it doesn't replace it.
