Yape

Definition

Yape is BCP's (Banco de Crédito del Perú) digital payments app, and the leader in mobile payments in Peru. It lets you send money by phone number and pay by QR code at merchants.

LATAM context

Yape is everywhere in Peru, from bakeries to taxis. Yape statements are generated from the app and tend to be short (4 pages typical), focused on Yape-to-Yape transfers, QR payments and top-ups. Anyone with a BCP account has Yape, and since 2022 it also accepts users from other banks.

Concrete example

On a Yape statement: "Yape enviado a Carlos Mendoza - Cel: ***1234 - 50 PEN - 2026-04-18 14:32". Every operation carries a second-level timestamp.

How it shows up on your bank statement

Yape statements are short and revolve around three kinds of transaction: QR payments, transfers between users, and top-ups from the linked bank account. Every transaction carries the contact's name and, for QR payments, the merchant's name. There's no CCI on Yape-to-Yape transactions because they never leave the app's ecosystem.

How does finO$ handle this?

finO$ processes Yape statements, extracting the (partially masked, for privacy) recipient phone number, the QR merchant and the category. Useful for small-business analytics.

Frequently asked questions about Yape

Does a Yape statement work for accounting?

It works as a record of transactions, but it's less detailed than a traditional bank statement: no counterparty CCI, no long references. For full traceability, it helps to cross-reference it with the statement of the linked BCP account.

Are Yape and Plin the same thing?

No. They're two separate wallets (Yape started at BCP and Plin brings together other banks), though they're interoperable today. The statement identifies each transaction by whichever wallet processed it.
